Welcome to the blog today and a Summer update of the den. It took me awhile to do something in this room to lighten it for Summer but I found a striped blanket at the Thrift Store last week and it works perfectly on the sofa in this room. That inspired the rest of the decor and the den now has a much brighter look.

The bowl on the coffee table is called a Chakra Bowl. Beside it you can see the striker. To sound the bowl you lightly strike the edge with the striker creating a tone. Then you run the edge of the striker around the edge of the bowl several times increasing the volume of the tone. When you remove the striker the tone will resonate in the room for several minutes. Different bowls have different tones that resonate. It’s quite a beautiful thing. The bowl is made from a solid piece of quartz and is beautiful within itself. The bowl is rounded on the bottom and sits on a small circular rubber loop.

Next to the bowl is a white/cream stoneware, pottery pitcher filled with parsley, sage and basil. The greens add Summer color and scent to the room making it a pleasant place to sit and read a book or have a cup of tea.

Next to the herbs ia a thrifted crystal vase filled with hydrangea just clipped from the garden. These delicate blossoms are a staple of Summer decorating and I love to bring them indoors and then allow them to dry for use in the Winter months.

The table runner is another Thrift Store find with the stripes in white and grey/tan that blend with the stripes on the blanket but run in the opposite direction.

You can see how nicely the colors match in the runner and the blanket. Keeping colors in your head or on your phone when you are thrifting allows you to match things with treasures you already have.

Just a few simple changes made a huge difference in the presentation of this room. It’s a cool and tranquil spot to sit and enjoy the bounties of Summer. Have a great week!

I didn’t know the proper name of the striker bowl; thank you! A friend has one and I have to play with it almost every time I go to her house. I didn’t know it was quartz; figured it was a frosted glass! NOW I know why they are so expensive! Your room looks like I would like to lay down with a book and read!!!
Thanks, Kathy. I love to sit in there and just have a few quiet moments. I sound the Chakra Bowl whenever I’m in there. Have a great week and thanks for sharing.

Love all the plants! My home is full of them too except mine are artificial, I don’t have a green thumb! Thanks so much for linking up at the #UnlimitedLinkParty 125. Pinned.
Herbs are hardy plants that need little attention. I like to think of them as working plants. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week.
