“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” L. M. Montgomery

Welcome, Friends, to the Blog today. I’m decorating my entranceway for Fall and, really, a welcome to October one of my favorite months. October has gorgeous flowers, apples, pumpkins, pie, and Halloween. The colors are deep and rich and breezes bring scents of falling leaves and bonfires.

I stopped at the grocery store and picked up a Mum in golden yellow with lots and lots of buds waiting to burst open into a plethora of sunny blossoms. I placed it in this woven basket with hand colored apples circling the base.

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower. ” Albert Camus

Then I chose a tin tray that sits on a low pedestal to hold an abundance of pumpkins in deep oranges, greens and yellows. The pumpkins rest on a round placemat embroidered in fall leaves. In the center is a pillar candle in rich reds and golds.

“In the evening, the brilliant yellow pumpkin blossoms will close, drunk on sunshine.” — Patricia McCormick, Sold

This lovely, tin, haunted house speaks to Halloween with a pillar candle lighting bats and stars and windows from the inside out. Nothing scary here just a mellow nod to Halloween.

“Nature is a haunted house–but Art–is a house that tries to be haunted.” Emily Dickenson

The sideboard is dressed with a deep chocolate, satin runner, embroidered with white feathers. It makes for a nice background for the flowers, pumpkins and tin house.

I love how, in this picture, you can see the room on the other side of the hall dressed for Fall. The colors carry from the entranceway into the den inviting you to enjoy an Autumnal welcome. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together. For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad.

I was out walking a few days ago and took some pictures of the lake. It was one of those bright, cool, beautiful days that need to be shared.

The black swan obligingly swam right across the tower reflected in the water. Have a great day.

  1. I love how you used the bat house and new tray together. I bet it is so pretty lit up at night! I have made fall arrangements for my booth—and nothing for home! One of my fave things to do to gone-by mums is to spray the flowers with hairspray, sprinkle them with glitter, then put them on the porch to look like they have been hit by frost! They will not winter over here in Maine.

  2. So cute! I love the galvanized bat house. Come and share at the Home Imagined Party (Tuesday9am-Thursday5pm). Your home looks beautiful.

  3. Gorgeous Lynne! I love all the color! That little bat house is adorable too. What a warm and inviting welcome you’ve created!
