Sometimes you complete a task and it leads to another idea. Welcome to the Blog today, Friends. I was cleaning some silver trays today that I use for chargers and they inspired me to set a table using the silver chargers as a base.

I really wanted something simple for a light Summer table but also something that leaned towards the elegant. A blue, white and silver table setting seemed just the thing. The table is anchored by a recently found white tablecloth with subtle stripes and a lovely fringe around the edge. The place setting was accompanied by a white embroidered napkin in a simple silver napkin ring.

A Minton dinner plate and a beautiful peacock salad/dessert plate keep the setting simple. The two plates are placed on a variety of silver trays which act as chargers.

The centerpiece is a beautiful cut crystal bowl holding lambs ear foliage with deep pink geraniums. The geraniums pick up the color in the peacock plates and pull them together.

Silver candlesticks in Mikasa candleholders flank the flowers.

I love how the silver on the table picks up the silver trays that back the letters spelling out DREAM that appear on the wall behind the table.

More crystal graces the table with two different cut crystal glasses. You can see that they have the same basic shapes and pair well together. I use these glasses frequently as they fit nicely in the hand and it is unlikely that they will tip over.

The silver-plate flatware is my favorite fan pattern giving the table an Art Deco feel. Its fancy but not overly ornate. These also fit the hand nicely so are easy to use during dinner. It’s always good to try out silverware in the hand, feeling the weight and making sure they are not too heavy or too light, too large for a smaller diner or too small for a larger diner. These are just like Goldilock’s choices and are just right.

You can see that the dinner pieces all fit beautifully on the table with enough color to be interesting while still keeping the overall effect simple.

All the individual elements worked to create a pleasing whole for the dinner guests.

You can see the lavender wreath I found this week on the center window. It is light and airy and smells wonderful…all good things when preparing for a dinner party.

The flatware, silver chargers, Minton dinner plates, peacock plates, cut crystal glasses, and centerpiece places, napkins, napkin rings and tablecloth are all thrifted items. It is really fun to look for pieces that compliment each other. I always love to look for high end china and crystal as it can be purchased for a fraction of the cost of new. It’s fun to thrift and it can have some great rewards. So, Happy Thrifting!

  1. The white tablecloth lets the colors shine (along with the silver trays, lol.) Nice combo.

  2. Beautiful! I was so sure your floral centerpiece was an African violet! I loved the elegance of the silver trays as chargers and the trays behind “dream.” I’m sure you got a workout polishing all of that silver!

    1. I always try to use what I can from the garden and Lamb’s Ears are a favorite with their soft greens. It was a bit of a workout polishing but I really love to see the silver gleam. Thanks for visiting and commenting.
