Thrifting Red in the Kitchen

Thrifting by color is one method of selecting items that you may find on a Thrifting Adventure. China and cookware can fall easily into color categories and it pays to have a color plan in mind when you thrift. Welcome to the Blog today, Friends. Collecting kitchen cookware with a common theme is the goal today.

You also want to consider the brand as you are looking at items. When I shop for cookware I want to be sure the item will hold up to the usage and better brands do a better job. Calaphon is one of the brands its nice to find.

This cast iron enameled baking dish was a really good find and only a couple of dollars. Sometimes cookware is stained and you do want to be careful because stains are hard to remove. Don’t buy anything scratched or chipped. This pan was in great shape and just needed a little elbow grease to bring it back to new condition. I love cooking with enamel over cast iron as it bakes evenly and the clean-up is pretty easy, too.

Found this mortar and pestle by Bobby Flay. He has a cooking show and some cookbooks on the market. I really just liked the color and it was brand new.

The next pieces are all bakeware and I’ve used them all. They do a really nice job in the oven for casserole dishes…..large and small. You can see the brands are both excellent. The small enamel ironstone bakers are Crate and Barrel and the large round and square bakers are by Cuisinart. Love the beautiful red colors in all these dishes.

It was nice to find some soup bowls in red and orange by an Italian maker. They were a set of four and are great for soups, pastas, or casserole servings.

Some of the best deals can be found in pie plates. Often there is just a standard price for them in the Thrift Store. Here are three red pie plates that I picked up. Two are made by Emile Henry from France. They are very pricey in the retail store and these were about $1 each. Then I also found a beautiful red pie plate by Bialetti who are known more for their wonderful coffee pots and espresso pots. It’s another quality name for the kitchen.

This was a really nice find. A very deep casserole in enamel over cast iron was in pristine condition with this wonderful red color. A couple of dollars brought it home with me and I use this all the time. I broke my name brand rule with this one but it was clearly an excellent quality in wonderful condition and has proved to be a really great pot in the kitchen.

So pick a color and go hunting for those great kitchen treasures. You won’t be disappointed when you have great kitchenware for a fraction of the cost.
