“I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string.” L. M. Montgomery
Welcome to the Blog today, Friends. Some recent events have made me take stock of the really important things in life…..friends, love, simple pleasures and the need to take a moment and see the beauty around us. We are all so busy it’s hard to take that time, to see the resting place through the trees when the trees are so abundant. So today I’m taking some time to reflect on some of those simple pleasures…..pleasures that don’t cost a lot but are priceless in their ability to refresh the soul.
“…..We do not tell a birch tree it should be more like an elm. We face it with no agenda, only an appreciation that becomes participation….” David Rich
This is the bark on a River Birch tree in my front yard. I am so amazed by the colors and the texture in the bark of these trees. They provide such interest in the Winter months. Why do they grow this way? I don’t really want the scientific explanation; rather a story of olden days and heroes to explain the Why? of this tree.
Have you noticed when you add milk to a cup of tea clouds and ripples form in the liquid. This beautiful patterning happens every time. How amazing is that? Even better…..no two ripple patterns are identical. The comfort of a cup of tea has long been recognized and embraced. Take a moment……watch the ripples expand.
Flowers in the dead of Winter. We are so fortunate to live in a time when such beauty is available to us from the Grocery store. Beauty is at your fingertips without the effort such growing involves.
“Flowers don’t worry about how they’re going to bloom. The Just open up and turn toward the light…..” Jim Carrey
“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home” Anna Quindlen
Books are a source of endless joy and challenge. The moments you spend with a good book are moments that allow you to transcend your everyday existence and become something new.
“The smallest feline is a masterpiece.” Leonardo Da Vinci
“As anyone who has ever been around a cat for any length of time well knows, cats have enormous patience with the limitations of humankind.” Cleveland Amory
The simple pleasure of a Friend in animal form goes a long way to brighten your day. Whether your Friend is a cat or a dog or something else, moments out of your day spent with these wonderful creatures, make the day better.
I hope you will all take a few moments from your busy schedules to enjoy the wonderful things in your life. Ponder and be grateful for all the good things. Happy Sunday!
