Want to curl up on the sofa with a furry throw and a good book? Winter is definitely the time to embrace cozy, warm settings. Welcome to the blog today, Friends.
I started today’s tablescape with a soft, winter throw in soothing tones and decided to try to build a table setting with that as my base. I looked through my tablecloths and couldn’t settle on one that had that warm, cozy look and then I thought of this throw.
The next element was the centerpiece. I have to say that I had a lot of trouble deciding on this. I wanted something simple that would speak to Winter but not be holiday related. I wanted the colors to be neutral and to tie into the rest of the tablescape….. all at the same time. This was the result. I took a piece of slate and some neutral, metal, pinecone candlesticks and a metal bird that I just love, collected them on the slate and then looked at it. I decided it needed a bit of color but didn’t want to be “match, match” so I chose several shades of red candles to use together in the centerpiece.
The plate stack came next. I wanted to keep a casual, eclectic feel to the table while still having a cozy feel. To that end, I selected some pottery plates that are all in the same color scheme to use for the table. The pottery is so earthy it makes you think of fireplaces and cottages. The white charger separates the pottery from the throw and makes each element stand out.
The pottery dinner plates are all different designs which makes for a nice surprise as the plates are revealed throughout the meal. The charger is by Fortessa. The salad/dessert plates have no maker on the back but the bread and butter plates are from the Crackle Collection by Pier 1. I like the mix and match elements of the setting with the earth tones that tie them together.
The goblets came next and I wanted to mix it up a little so used a silver water goblet that really reflects the light and a crystal wine glass, Christiana Platinum by Noritake.
The napkins are held by black, wrought iron napkin rings that pick up on the black slate. Red and white striped napkins with our initial are placed above the plates in this setting.
These darling little iron…..they are really heavy…..place card holders from Pottery Barn tie in with the pinecone candle holders in the centerpiece.
I used my everyday Fiddlehead flatware from Crate and Barrel, I think. Bought it years ago and purchased more settings on Ebay when they were discontinued.
This was a bit of a challenge to pull together but I was happy with the result. It’s cozy, eclectic, and just a bit Wintery.
