Welcome to the Blog today, Friends. Let’s start with some “Bubbly” in a beautiful champagne flute set on a silver tray as we prepare to welcome in the New Year. This year, like last year, requires a bit different approach to the celebrations. Covid is rampant everywhere and we have been advised to keep close to home with few people joining our celebrations. We are welcomed the New Year with a couple of old friends at a small get together in the afternoon. It has to be midnight somewhere so we can toast the New Year a little bit early.
The weather has been so warm here I decided to set the table on the screened porch. I began this table setting with a modern flower print tablecloth in bright whites and greens. The white flower centers are made of small red berries. The plate stack begins with a red rattan charger. A Wedgewood dinner plate nestles into the charger and echoes the white and red in the tablecloth. A salad/dessert plate edged in red depicts a busy village in bright colors against a white snowy background. The flour salad plates each depict a different village scene. Finally, a matching napkin holds a knife and fork and is held together by a red and green jingle bell napkin ring.
A bright red Portuguese jug holds beautiful red and white flowers that blend with the tablecloth and the dishes.
Two cheese trays are placed at either end of the table. Couples were able to share a platter. Brie with jam, cranberry cheddar, English cheddar and Gouda are the cheeses. Grapes and walnuts make tasty accompaniments to the cheese.
In addition there are crab dip, red pepper hummus and crackers and bread on the table.
Bread and Pita are in the bread basket and a wonderful hot appetizer of pinwheel pastry with sausage, brie and rosemary brought by our guests, complete the table setting. The water goblets and champagne flutes are both Waterford crystal.
Two tulip cups are placed at each table setting to hold crab dip and hummus. It’s a good idea to have individual serving pieces for each dinner guest. There’s less chance of transmitting infection that way and it looks pretty.
It is really nice to be able to sit outside in shirt sleeves and gaze into the backyard as birds are feeding at the feeders. This was a great way to end the old year and start the new……sharing appetizers on the porch on a very warm December afternoon. Hope your New Year is filled with joy for you and your Family.
