The dining room is an important part of my house during the holiday season. Friends and Family drop by for dinner or a cup of cheer. Formal occasions are a little more common at this time of the year so the Dining Room gets decked out for Christmas.
This year I wanted to create a statement centerpiece. My talented hubby created a wonderful 4′ long narrow box edged in copper to be the base for the centerpiece. You can see how he made it here:

I placed a plastic liner in the box and then inserted some wet floral foam to hold the greens. Starting with Leland Cypress I created a base for the flowers I would add later on. After the Leland Cypress I added some spruce, then some mop head cypress and finally some holly. You could easily stop at this point and have a lovely arrangement of Christmas greens.
When the greens were all in place I scattered flowers down the length of the box. I used red and white roses and some open Chrysanthemums. The beauty of this type of arrangement is being able to replace the flowers when needed without having to replace the greens. The greens should last for most of the season, if you add water periodically to the arrangement.
Placed on a Lenox table runner the centerpiece definitely has some impact. I kept all the greenery and flowers low so there would be no problem for people talking across the table.
The place setting is a mix of red, green and gold. My daughter gifted me with the reindeer napkin rings this week and they are perfect for this table setting.
A glass gold and silver charger forms the base of the plate stack. It’s not marked on the back so I don’t know who made it. Next is the dinner plate…..Royal Hunt by Noritake. Depicted on the plate are three animal vignettes; a rabbit, a pheasant, and a stag. The plate is bordered in a red, white and green check with a gold strip around the outer rim. Hunting dogs in gold chase the animals around the rim of the plate. The colors are really vibrant and make a perfect holiday choice. A snowflake plate in gold and white by Vietri serves as the salad/dessert plate. The bread and butter plate is Noritake Royal Hunt. My hubby gave these to me for my birthday last year and he has added to the set from Flea Market, Thrift Store and Marketplace finds. I now have a complete set for 16 so I am a lucky gal.
Here’s a closer look at the napkin rings and the napkins from Pottery Barn. The white circles could be snowballs. The fan design shows off the white snowballs and softens the overall look.
Gorgeous Fan silver-plate, an Estate sale find adds to the beauty of the setting. These are nice and heavy which is needed because of the elaborate pattern in the china.
Silver wine glasses are paired with Noritake cut crystal water goblets. The wine goblets pick-up on the silver in the flatware. They have a lovely sleek form that is mimicked by the water goblet.
Across the table you can see the china cabinet holding two different Christmas china patterns. The first is Noritake’s Golden Ball china (the bottom two rows). All the rims are decorated with Christmas Ornaments in applied gold. This was a Thrift Store find a few years ago. The Tea Set rests on a silver tray, also thrifted. The two center shelves hold Fitz & Floyd figures and a “Be Merry” plate. A Lenox teapot and a cool sheep complete those shelves. The top shelf holds Fitz & Floyd’s Christmas Holly pattern. It’s another favorite that I found at a local Thrift Store.
Here’s a closeup of the wreath on the mirror with the table reflected in the background.
The wreath was made by putting a red berry wreath on top of a pine wreath and wiring them together. The wreath has presence and isn’t over shadowed by the ornate mirror.

Fitz & Floyd Reindeer candlesticks anchor each end of the table and fit in well with the Noritake, Royal Hunt china.
