Setting a pretty table to share with friends is a real joy. Spending a little extra time preparing a table setting or a centerpiece, or a gift for your guests is time well spent. Today I’ll be sharing a tea/dessert setting with you that is put together with all thrifted items. Welcome, Friends, to today’s Blog. Wish you could all be here to join me for tea and dessert.
I actually started this table setting with the tea tin floral gifts I prepared for the guests. Once those colors were established I went to my place mat stack and found some placemats that were embroidered with delicate flowers and leaves. Then I chose the china that would compliment the flowers and the place mat.
The top plate is highly decorated in greens and roses with gold accents. There is no maker’s stamp on the plate but it is really beautiful. lI discovered that it was made by New Chelsea china based in Staffordshire, England. Then I used a plain white Mikasa salad/dessert plate with a carved outer border. Finally, some newly found luncheon plates from Crown Ducal……their Bristol pattern. I was really happy with how the borders showed about the same amount from plate to plate. The colors tie in with the place mats and with the floral pieces.
Beautiful goblets enhance the decorative quality of the top plates. The larger goblet is by Pairpoint and is a real treasure. These are not easily found anymore and I was lucky to run across them. The smaller, cut glass goblets are by Noritake and made from heavy leaded crystal. Although they are quite different the overall style is lines are similar making them a good pairing.
Each place setting has a unique cup and saucer that enhances the rest of the table design.
Muslin napkins edged in lace are a delicate addition to the table setting. Flatware is silver plate edged in gold. It picks up the gold in the top plate in the plate stack.
The tea service is white with a lotus pattern. It sits on a green tinted cake stand that raises it up on the table and creates a focal point.
Michael Aram is the designer of this great tea set. I have eight cups and saucers that match but didn’t use them in this setting.
Each place setting has its own floral arrangement that will be taken home as a gift by each guest. It was easy and fun to create these floral gifts. You can see how I made them here:

I love how flowers seem to be everywhere on the table…..in a contained way. LOL.
Here’s an overhead view of the table.
Another view looking across the table. This tablescape was a pleasure to create. A beautiful setting to gather and exchange ideas and conversation all over a hot cup of tea and some dessert.
