Hello, Friends, welcome to today’s Blog on seeking a little more storage space in your home. I have a good size kitchen but who doesn’t need more cupboard space. As a blogger I have a lot of dishes that I use for table settings and they all have to be stored somewhere. I also like to cook and bake so that comes with lots of pots and pans that also need to be stored. Even with a large kitchen I am constantly juggling space.

When we purchased out home the area that you see fronted by cabinets just had a bowed countertop where people could gather and place their drinks while you were cooking. We had that replaced with a straight piece of granite countertop. Then my brilliant Hubby suggested that we put a series of wall cabinets in front of the kitchen counter. It’s hard to see in this picture but the cabinets are mounted on round feet to elevate them to slightly below the granite. Then a hickory slab was stained and added to the top of the cabinets to make a continuous top.

Here’s a closer look at the hickory slab. It’s really quite beautiful.

Since the cabinets are only a foot deep they don’t come out into the room as much as the original bowed countertop.

As you can see in this picture we added a tremendous amount of storage space to the kitchen and it looks like built-in furniture.

These cabinets store a lot of dishes. When I’m putting together table settings it definitely makes it easier if pieces are readily available and easy to access. I do change out some of the dishes seasonally.

It makes a nice sleek and unobtrusive presence in the Great Room. I also have a wonderful place for setting out a buffet for guests or for displaying treasures throughout the year.

We recently added some storage to our media closet as well. Originally we had just one bookcase. Then my Hubby installed two additional cases stacked one on top of the other. They are also screwed into the wall for added stability. We use them to store DVD’s and some extra glassware. Our tripods are stored on the shelves and we still have lots of room for mundane things like steps tools and vacuum cleaners. It has made this storage closet much more accessible.

Here’s a closer look. It’s amazing what additional storage you can obtain by going up.

One last, easy, quick storage idea for your home. I like to pick up lidded wine boxes whenever I can…..they have a lot of great uses. I was building a display for Fall and incorporating some wine boxes in the display. The above box has some great storage space so I popped some candles in there for easy access.

The candles actually filled this box and a second one. I was able to divide them by color. All the candles are thrifted so not more than 5-25 cents each.

After filling the boxes with candles I stacked them as part of the Fall display in my Morning Room.

Hope you can use some of these ideas in your own home. We can all use a little more storage space.
