We are in full Summer mode now. Welcome to the blog, Friends. Today I’m putting together a simple Summer tablescape with some great items from the Thrift Store.
Let’s start with the plate stack. There are four layers plus the textured white tablecloth on which everything sits. I used white for it’s association with crisp summer sailor suits, pretty summer dresses and white sand on a beautiful beach. Just makes you think Summer!
The chargers are Mikasa and a modern design in silver. They are very low and simple so as not to cause a lot of attention. They provide a great background for the china. The large dinner plate is Carmina by Royal Doulton. Beautiful cloudy blue centers are rimmed by soft yellow with blue diamonds surrounding the rim of the plate. Next came a gorgeous, textured dessert/salad plate with a swirled rim in grey/blue outlined in a thin line of blue around the very edge. The center is bright white. These plates are by Dansk. Finally, a Williams Sonoma small plate with a variety of sea creatures in soft yellows, greens and blues tops the plate stack. I love that these plates are square adding an additional shape to the plate stack.
Here are the four different sea creatures found on the plates. They are quite soft in their colors but stand out nicely against the white background. The softer tones add to their appeal and the yellow rims echo the dinner plates.
My favorite is the pelican that sits at the pinnacle of the plate stack clutching the napkin. It looks like he has found the napkin somewhere on the beach and has brought it directly to the table for you to use. He’s a pretty friendly pelican. I’ve had these napkin rings for awhile but hadn’t found a way to use them. I think they worked out well here. They seemed to fit today’s table setting and are holding napkins edged in sailboats in lovely blues and greens.
A simple flower centerpiece in white and green with a pop of yellow in the center of the daisies is gathered in a cut glass crystal pitcher.
The flowers are flanked by brass candlesticks with soft green candles echoing the flower colors.
Blue, Block crystal, hand blown, water goblets are paired with red wine glasses by Vera Wang. I think they compliment one another and add to the simplicity of the table while giving it a little sparkle. The blue makes me think of Summer skies and ocean waters.
Rogers silver-plated flatware with a simple flower design accompanies the plate stack.
Light and airy in feel this simple, uncluttered, table setting will be a cool and calm place to have a lovely Summer dinner.
