Welcome Friends! Today’s Blog is all about Fairy Tales. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel were probably part of your childhood. The stories made for great bedtime telling and Disney popularized many of them into animated movies. The Grimm Brothers were made famous by the telling of these tales.

I found some beautiful plates this week that were produced by Franklin Porcelain. Each plate depicts a scene from one of the Grimm Brother’s Fairy Tales. Bordered in a rim of gold swirls and flowers the colorful plates are gorgeous examples of scenes from our favorite fairy tales. The one above is Rapunzel letting her hair down for the Prince to ascend to her tower. Who doesn’t remember, “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair.” The plates are very detailed and illustrate beautifully the fairy tale they represent.

Gold, gold and more gold make up each place setting beginning with the gold rimmed, glass charger. The color is an “old gold” that matches the rim of the Fairy Tale plate. The dinner plate is a simple, gold-edged, white scalloped plate that presents the fairy tale plate without distraction. The fairy tale plate, this one showing a scene from Rumplestiltskin, nestles into the dinner plate. There is a lot of “bling” going on in this place setting.

These are the four plates on the table: Rumplestiltskin, The Twelve Dancing Princesses, Rapunzel and Hansel and Gretel. There is so much reflected light from all the gold and silver on the table it was actually hard to get some clear pictures of the plates. LOL

A simple gold tablecloth acts as the base for the table setting. Red roses in gold cups are placed at opposite ends of the table. Roses feature heavily in many fairy tales and so seemed an appropriate part of the centerpiece. Gold and silver flatware continue the fairy tale theme.

A simple gold damask napkin fashioned into a rose is placed at the corner of each place setting. This picture shows you the gold of the tablecloth, napkin and charger.

Waterford crystal water glasses and silver wine goblets grace each place setting reflecting even more light in the room. In the background you see the gold braided table runner.

Here’s a close-up of the table runner with it’s textured gold and elegant green fabrics and gold braid. The runner ends in points with green and gold tassels which cascade over each end of the table.

A copy of Grimm’s Fairy Tales with a beautifully illustrated cover embossed with a gold scroll pattern anchors the center of the table. The book is flanked by Silver mercury glass candlesticks and a single rose in a gold cup.

It’s probably a bit “over the top” but it was a fun one to put together. This table setting brings back a lot of fond childhood memories……sitting on the bough of a tree with your back resting against the trunk immersed in one of the great children’s stories. What could be better?
