Welcome to the Blog today and a look at a really simple Summer table setting. Fresh green and deep rose colors bring to mind soft green grass, berry bushes and gentle breezes. Summer in the South can be pretty brutal with hot, humid days and nights, Sweltering heat can keep you indoors out of the sun. I am happy to say that this year we have had really nice weather. It’s been cooler and not so humid. I’m sitting out on the screen porch putting this Blog together and enjoying a breeze, the sound of the water fountain, and the birds flitting to and from the feeders.

Flowers from my garden are making an appearance in this centerpiece. Hydrangea in white and blue, some carnations and some camellias all add to the lush feel of a Summer garden. The cut crystal vase is beautiful with its scalloped edges and cut glass patterns.

The plate stack begins with a woven mat in green. The mat rests on a textured white tablecloth I found this week at the Thrift Store. They were having a half off sale on linens so I picked up three round tablecloths at $1.50 each and a runner for $1. Table linens for these prices don’t even make me feel guilty at purchasing one more.

Next is a Nikko dinner plate with scalloped edges. A thin green border runs around the outer edge and the rim has berries on beautiful green stems circling the plate. The berries are delicate leaving lots of white space giving the plates an airy feel.

I coupled the dinner plates with a plaid salad/dessert plate in similar but not identical colors. I like how the plaid plate is in opposition to the delicacy of the dinner plate. It adds some tension to the place setting while providing interest.

Finally, a beautifully simple scalloped fruit bowl from Pier 1 is filled with berries that reflect the berries in the dinner plate. The berries add that summer feel to the setting while keeping it simple. Our local strawberry farmers are bringing these wonderful fruits to the Farmer’s Market and we have been taking full advantage indulging in these beauties daily.

A table setting wouldn’t be complete without some beautiful glasses and these are some of my favorites. The green hand blown wine glass is one I’ve had for years. I really like that there is just a bit of green in the stem and around the rim of the glass. The water goblet is a new acquisition. I found three of them a few weeks ago, kept the picture of the glass on my phone, and this week ran across another glass that was a match. I think they are the Dublin pattern by Shannon. The glasses are quite heavy and beautifully cut into the patterns you see in the picture. Love how they look on the table.

The silver-plated flatware is an old favorite and one I use quite often. The elaborate flower motif goes well with lots of Summer china. Next to the flatware rests a flowered napkin in various shades of green with large flowers in pinks. The other side of the napkin is striped. Napkin rings matching the plaid plates add a nice cohesive touch to the setting. They are made from wood and painted in similar plaid colors to the dessert plates. I found six of them at a Thrift Store and brought them home. Something a little different.

Here’s an overhead of the table setting. You can see how the greens blend together…..just like the greenery in your garden. Love how the pink in the salad/dessert plates is picked up by the carnations in the centerpiece. The berries add another shade of deeper pink to the setting.

Greens in the background, through the window, add to the greens in the table setting. Somehow the garden is brought inside for everyone to enjoy.
