You’re just in time for a casual, “Almost Summer” table setting. So happy you are here. this time of year it’s nice to have a more casual setting with a little bit of summer. It brings to mind soft breezes, flowers in the garden, summer salads and relaxed afternoons on the porch sipping lemonade or sparkling water.

I began this table setting with a plate stack starting with Royal Doulton Calypso for the dinner plate. I really like the movement around the rim of this patter. I also has several different shades of blues and greens with a nice yellow border on the inner side of the rim. Small dots of a rusty color are positioned at the bottom of each pair of leaves around the rim.

The middle plate is a Dansk pattern made in France that shows four different types of flowers. The rim has etched vines and leaves surrounding the center flower.

Finally, I used the matching dessert plate for the Royal Doulton Calypso pattern. The colors are the reverse of the dinner plate with the inner rim in the rust color. Very summery and breezy.

Two of the place settings sit directly on the yellow linen tablecloth and two rest on the blue, white and green striped table runner. It adds a little contrast and interest to the table.

You can see above that I used an English pottery beaker as one of the glassware elements. It has the same blue/green colors and will hold beer or iced tea and keep it quite cold. The green glass is a recent find and hand-blown glass. Love the circles formed when the glass was made. The pottery adds a rustic touch that goes well with the centerpiece.

It’s nice to have a centerpiece be functional as well as decorative. My Hubby made this one from cedar planks and added a copper handle. I left it in it’s original rustic state. Adds that casual, relaxed feel to the table. It functions well to hold condiments or napkins as well as the pretty posy nestled into a tall mason jar covered with a fabric napkin and some decorative ribbon.

Dinner was a big Salad made with fresh lettuce from the garden, some fresh herbs….chives, lemon verbena, parsley and lemon thyme…..and some green beans, beets, and mandarin oranges.

Yarrow and Lemon Verbena were laid on the plates to dress them up just a bit. They were later added to the centerpiece.

Here’s the overhead view. You can see the patterning on the plates from this angle.

Everything on the table was thrifted with the exception of the flatware which is from Pottery Barn years ago. I enjoyed putting this one together with it’s spacious relaxed feel and it’s functional centerpiece. Hope you enjoy sitting down to a Summer salad at your house very soon.
