Welcome to the Blog today. Hope you are all enjoying this really great Spring weather. The nights are cool and the days are in the 70’s with no humidity. It’s a perfect time to set a table out on the porch. You can see in the picture above that this table for four is set so everyone can enjoy the view into the garden. The birds gather at the feeders and provide entertainment while we eat. I have a fountain just outside the porch that cascades providing a musical water background while we dine.
The plates I’m using today are a mix of Villeroy and Boch from their Classic Collection and Doulton’s Everyday in the Calypso pattern. The Villeroy and Boch are in a delicate white with a gently scalloped border while the Doulton Everyday is filled with color and pattern….flowers and geometrics….that pick-up the colors in the tablecloth and the centerpiece. Both patterns were recently thrifted.
The plate stack sits on a rustic woven charger in the same red as the plates and the tablecloth. I used the white dessert/salad plate to give some relief to the eye from all the patterning. The white is also picked up in the center of the bread and butter plate tying the two together. I added an old, white linen embroidered napkin to continue the white throughout the setting. The linen napkin helps relax the whole setting and make it approachable and friendly. Thee were all Thrift Store finds.
Hand blown green glasses pick up the greens in the plates, tablecloth, centerpiece and the garden beyond. They keep the setting from becoming too heavy and weighed down.
I’ve used my everyday flatware from Pottery Barn to keep the casual feeling while providing a few curves. The stainless is Fiddlehead. Love how it looks on the table.

Mason jars hold the flowers that were gathered fresh from the garden. There are Japanese lilies, yarrow, azaleas, chives and lemon balm. The pine box reflects the warm colors in the tablecloth and the plates. Love how the flowers appear to be growing right out of the wine box. The centerpiece draws your eye and then allows it to flow right out into the garden.
We enjoyed a meal of fresh herbal salad, roasted red and orange peppers, flank steak with basil sauce and some boiled potatoes with chives and parsley. It was the perfect dinner for a screened porch setting.
