Hello and welcome today. I was sorting through the china cupboard and re-discovered this set of hand thrown pottery dishes. I found them a few years ago when visiting family in Virginia. We went a country fair in the mountains and there were several potters showing their goods. I liked the shape and the colors of these dishes. The glazed surface had some movement and the colors were calm and very organic. I ended up purchasing a few place settings. They are actually dishwasher safe and made to fit into the top part of the dishwasher. The potter is David Emmert.

This set is just as lovely. They both have just a touch of fuscia in the glaze. The bowls remind me of large flowers. The colors are tranquil and make a subdued background for any food you might wish to serve allowing the meal to take center stage. The table is set for a casual afternoon tea for two. What can be better than a cup of hot tea and a few scrumptious goodies?

The table was set with a cream colored tablecloth. Then placemats in green, white and cream were used to ground the table settings. The beautiful pottery dinner plates and bowls came next.

I picked up this gorgeous silver plate flatware by Holmes and Edwards recently at a thrift store. The pattern is a good choice for Spring and Summer with it’s etched flowers and pineapple signifying welcome.

The Tea Service is Italian Countryside by Mikasa. It came with the teapot, cream and sugar, and two cups and saucers. Found it for about $5.00 at the local Goodwill in an unopened box. Love the simplicity of the pattern. The Tea Service is resting on a white Italian plate with a flower border. I used a simple folded napkin to provide a bit of contrast between the plate and the tea things.

A fluted cut crystal vase filled with flowers is flanked by two crystal candle holders with green candles that match the colors in the placemats. The greens, blues and creams offer a soothing palate for a respite in a busy day. Mikasa crystal water glasses compliment the place setting and the napkins cascading from the glasses add height to the table setting.

Can’t wait to sit and relax with a friend while enjoying a calming cup of tea in a tranquil setting. Take a few moments from your own busy schedule and enjoy a “cuppa” with a good friend.
