Welcome everyone! I put together this really simple, casual table setting with yellow as the predominant color. Seems like a good color to use as Spring progresses and there is more sunshine each day. I wanted something informal and relaxed so I started with a very light green tablecloth in linen. It has a bit of decorative stitching across the tablecloth but it is very subtle.
The plate stack starts with a bamboo charger in a very light tan/yellow color. It has some nice texture from the grain in the bamboo. Next is a Villeroy & Boch plate with a beautiful scalloped edge. I found these at my local thrift store with four dinner plates and four accompanying salad/dessert plates. Next I used some French plates from William Sonoma. They have a French newspaper and a French pastry on the plate. There are four plates in the set, each with a different French pastry shown. They remind me of a French bistro.
I was thinking this would be a great luncheon or brunch setting. I added a William Sonoma Tulip cup to each plate…. setting it off-center….. and then added a beautiful plum to each plate. You will often have fruit served in such a setting in France.
The centerpiece was a vignette created from a tray, that tied the colors together, a beautiful pottery teapot with birds and flowering trees depicted, a hydrangea and a pillar candlestick with a pillar candle in the same colors as the teapot. It’s very casual suggesting you just had a few of these things in the house that you placed on the table to welcome guests.
Individual small, glass pitchers hold Lady Banks roses and are added to each place setting. The pitchers are all different but about the same size so they are cohesive and casual at the same time. The yellow flowers are happy and casual. The French use flowers in mis-matched containers on their tables.
I used pottery glasses and wine goblets to continue the relaxed, earthy feel of a French Bistro. I think they work well with the colors on the table.
Silverplate flatware in a flower pattern that is restrained and simple is used in the place setting. I love the repeating flower theme that goes throughout this table setting.
Finally, we have some French style napkins that pick up the colors on the table. They are held in pottery napkin holders that echo the pottery glasses and wine glasses. It ties everything together.
A few more views of the table. As always, most of the items have been thrifted. I really enjoy adding specialty plates and cups to my collection. They add versatility to your ability to set a unique table with things you love at a reasonable price.
Enjoy your week and Happy Easter!
