Welcome to this week’s tablescape everyone. I have been working in the yard all week as the temperatures here are in the 60’s and 70’s. A real taste of Spring which leads to garden clean-up.
I’ve gotten the garden composted and the stones and trellis’s reset in preparation for planting. You can see a pot of parsley, some rosemary and at the far end of the garden the chives are coming back after the Winter. I really love this time of renewal.
I was inspired by the beautiful daffodils growing in the garden. Had to bring a little of their sunshine into the house to light up my table setting for today. The gorgeous yellow and white colors of the flowers inspired everything else. I used a very organic hand thrown pottery vase to hold the blooms and set the tone for the table.
The plate stack starts with a cream wooden charger. A pottery dinner plate rimmed with wild flowers from Barking Spider Pottery is next. Then I added English, Alfred Meakin Bird Plates (reproductions of Audubon’s birds). Finally, Limoges Herbal Plates by I. Godinger are placed on the top of the stack.
The herbal plates all depict a different herb in bloom. Rosemary, Sage, Basil and Oregano are growing in a pot at the center of the plate. Around the rim are the leaves of that particular herb shown against a yellow background.
When the herb plates are removed and set aside for bread and butter, they reveal a SURPRISE! Beneath the herb plates are beautiful birds. Each one is different and accurately depicts the bird it represents. They are shown amid blooming foliage. Each plate is rimmed with a border of leaves set into the china. These plates are truly lovely.
When the bird plates are removed you have a lovely hand-thrown pottery plate underneath. Simple flowers adorn the rim in graceful arches.
Like Spring, the plate stack is a feast for the eyes.
Hand-thrown water and wine glasses from Annapolis Pottery help ground the place setting. Gold flatware adds a bit more sunshine to the table with a very simple design on the cutlery.
Napkins formed into roses nestle next to the flatware combining the colors present in the plate stack. I love how there are flowers and foliage throughout the place setting.
The daffodils take precedence in the center of the table and are flanked on either side by small vases of rosemary and parsley from the garden. The fragrance speaks Spring. The herbs are contained in ice cream dishes from Pfaltzgraf. They have yellow cone bottoms and floral tops in keeping with the rest of the table. The entire table setting rests on a beautiful yellow linen tablecloth.
This was such a fun table setting to put together. Most of the items were thrifted which always makes me happy. I enjoyed all the different elements that reminded me of Spring and the renewal of nature. Set yourself a lovely Spring table setting and bask in the that feeling of regrowth. Enjoy!
