Hi Everyone! Thought I’d post this in advance of St. Patrick’s Day to maybe give you some ideas for a simple but pretty tablescape. This one is using all thrifted items accept for the teapot. I wanted a table setting that didn’t scream “over-the-top” but would still be recognizable as St. Patrick’s Day. I chose to use flowers and green to emulate the Irish countryside. We visited there a couple of years ago and stayed for almost three months. It was a magical time and the Irish are the most hospitable people you can imagine.
I started with a quilted bright green runner that ran the length of the table. To that I added two flower arrangements in matching green glass bowls (Salvation Army Thrift Store). They are quite heavy glass with a cross hatch pattern in black. I took some ivy from the garden and added some yellow, white and green grocery store flowers. They included roses, daisies, and mums. I think they look really festive and happy on the table. St. Patrick’s Day is a really joyous celebration. Then in the center of the runner between the two flower arrangements I placed a green and orange teapot that reminded me of a leprechaun. I added some green four-leaf clovers that are suspended above the spout like balloons. Some ivy runs the length of the runner amongst the flowers and the teapot.
For a little contrast I placed the glass bowls on folded napkins placed on the diagonal.
The plate stack consisted of a dinner size and bread and butter size of Susie Cooper china and a checked salad/dessert plate by PAI. The flowers adorning the rims of the large and small plates compliment the colors in the checked dessert plates.
Here’s a close-up of the napkin rings. Found these the other day at Miracle Hill Thrift Store. They are made of black walnut and beautifully painted. They pick up all the colors on the table; the plates, the napkins and even the teapot.
The napkins reflect the checked pattern in the dessert plates carrying on the pink and green colors. Hand blown green water and wine glasses add to the many shades of green in this Irish inspired tablescape.
The silverware is Oneida’s Heirloom pattern. It’s actually stainless steel. I love the simplicity with just a touch of decoration in this pattern. Everything sits on a green straw mat with a cross hatch pattern. Love how the textured mats add to the tablescape.
Here’s a closer look at the flower arrangements and the center of the table. It made me smile just looking t the sunny colors.
So there you have it, a St. Patrick’s Day table setting reflecting the greens of the Irish landscape. Wishing you all a wonderfully happy St. Patrick’s Day.
“May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light, may good luck pursue you each day and night.” “May the luck of the Irish lead to the happiest heights and the highway you travel be lined with green lights.”
