You might get the impression from this table setting that I have a mild interest in Spode Christmas Tree china. I may have gone a little overboard but I really wanted to show you how beautiful this pattern is and how it captures the holiday spirit. It’s a little more formal and suitable for an elegant meal in the formal dining room. The napkins were thrifted and I combined a white damask napkin with a plain red napkin. I used a red, green and gold drum for the napkin holder (thrifted).
The plate stack is set on a damask Spode Christmas Tree place mat. Found these at the Hospice Thrift Store which was having a 50% off Christmas sale. So for $4 I was able to get 6 place mats that still had the tags on them. The plate stack starts with the dinner plate followed by salad/dessert and a small bread and butter plate that I’m using as an under plate for the small bowl that I’ll use to serve a small portion of soup. On the soup bowl rests a sherbert or shrimp cocktail crystal, stemmed dish. I found four of these Mikasa Park Lane sherbert dishes at Miracle Hill this week. They were 92 cents each. They were popped immediately into my cart and I did my Happy dance all the way to the check-out counter. They match my crystal and I love them.
The Spode china is new this year. I shop on Marketplace sometimes. It’s like Craig’s List but on Facebook and a little safer? Anyway, people sell everything on Marketplace. I ran across this china which included 12 place settings like the ones above, a number of serving pieces and all the quilted holders that were used to store the china. The price was way below market value so we drove a couple of hours to pick it up.
The Spode Christmas Tree flatware was also 12 place settings plus two drawers of serving pieces and the custom box to store all the flatware. So included in the place setting is a seafood fork, dessert/salad fork, dinner fork, soup spoon, teaspoon, steak knife and dinner knife. A butter knife rests on the Spode mittens acting as bread and butter plates in this setting. The mittens were thrift store finds and the flatware was Goodwill Online Shopping. The cost was, again, well below market value.
The glassware is Mikasa Park Lane champagnes and red wine glasses and hand blown red colonial goblets for water. The colonial goblets pick up the red in the Christmas tree pattern in the Spode china. The crystal really sparkles on the table. Behind the glasses you get a pretty good look at two of the Fitz and Floyd deer and the crystal decanter holding some greenery and berries.
A Crate and Barrel silk runner in beautiful red and gold runs down the center of the table establishing a base for the Fitz and Floyd Reindeer prancing about. Two of the reindeer boast red candlesticks while the center reindeer repeats the green, red and white in the Spode china. A couple of pine cone candles are mixed in with the deer and flanked by the greenery and berries in crystal decanters.
In the china cabinet more Spode is displayed and some red and green teapots add to the ambience. A Christopher Radko snowman cookie jar and Christmas tree grace the top of the cabinet along with a German Santa beer stein. All the items were thrifted.
On the tea cart is a large Fitz and Floyd deer flanked by a Shannon Crystal decanter and glasses and a beautiful crystal ice bucket given to me by our daughter. They rest on a thrifted runner.
I tried to mention everything but if I missed something, let me know. This is definitely going to be our Christmas Eve table where we sit down to a formal meal and give thanks for our many blessings.
We will enjoy this china, flatware and accompanying crystal and porcelain for many years to come. Makes me smile to see it ready and waiting for us to sit down and celebrate a meal together.
I’ll leave you with a few more pictures to enjoy. Wishing you a happy holiday dinner together with loved ones.
