Welcome to this blog on creating a Hallowe’en tablescape, or two, using only thrifted items. Everything I used today came from a thrift store. Hallowe’en tablescapes can be fun and a bit challenging. They can also be expensive…unless you visit your local thrift shop for inspiration and budget friendly choices. I put together two completely thrifted Hallowe’en tablescapes by shopping my house as we are still not going out very much.

The first one is a simple setting for four. I started with a black table cloth and then decided to use a very simple centerpiece. You can see that the black cat is being tickled by the black-eyed susans taken from my garden. The flowers are gathered in a hand thrown black pottery vase and add the only bit of color in the setting. The orange color goes with the Hallowe’en theme.

Next I used black leather chargers for a little bit of texture. I used Mikassa’s “Flower Basket White” dinner plates. I love the edges on these dishes and they add interest to the plate stack.

For the top layer I used a combination of Fitz and Floyd “Majorca” plates and Pottery Barn “Black and White” plates. The silverware is Roger’s “Remembrance”. I used Mikassa’s “Park Lane” Crystal (discontinued pattern). I have been collecting the crystal for awhile and pick up a piece here and there as I visit shops. The napkins have a pretty lace trim around the edges and was found at Goodwill.

I like this setting as it really is simple and a bit elegant for a more intimate Hallowe’en.

This next tablescape uses many of the same elements as the intimate Hallowe’en table. I used the same top layer of plates and the same silverware. I started this table setting with another black table cloth.

The next layer was a piece of fabric in gold. I bunched the ends to give a little definition to the runner. I placed my cat in the center but this time he has a candle flame making him arch so high.

I added spider lanterns with mercury votive candles nestled inside. Some skull ribbon adorns the tops of the lanterns. A skull on a cake stand anchors the end of the table. Interspersed between the cat and the lanterns are some disembodied hands. One is clutching a dragon in a glass sphere.

The table stack begins with a black charger circled with rhinestones by Celebrate It. the dinner plate is Portuguese with an interesting raised edge. Simple white napkins with a skull ribbon edge tie in the silver color. Black and gold fans were placed under the forks for a touch of glamor.

The cups are actually mint julep cups that are burnished gold and mercury glass with a great edging. They have glass inserts inside. My husband actually found these buried behind a bunch of stuff at the Goodwill. They came in a set of six.

This was fun to do and I really enjoyed putting it together. The two tablescapes together were probably under $35.00 not counting the silverware. As I said at the top of the blog. Everything on both these tables was obtained from a thrift store. Hope it gives you some ideas for Hallowe’en at your house.
