So what can you do with a simple loaf of Bake-your-own French Bread. I say….turn it into a great appetizer to lift your spirits and bring a “Taste of Italy” into your Shelter in Place life.
After the bread is baked, according to package directions, and has turned a nice crispy golden color cut it into slices about 1 inch thick. Have some good olive oil handy.
Turn on your broiler and place the slices on a rimmed pan or cookie sheet. Brush the slices with olive oil and place under the broiler. It’s best to watch the bread as it takes just a few minutes to broil.
Edges will be a golden brown when finished. Remove from oven and place on a serving plate.
Add Bruschetta to each slice. (This is red pepper bruschetta I had on hand.) Scatter some basil over the bruschetta for color and that great bite of flavor. I grow Basil inside under plant lights this time of year.
Serve with a couple of glasses of red wine and you have a great but simple appetizer. Really good.
Enjoy!
