We had to have some trees taken down last Fall and they left a bit of a whole in the side garden. So, this year, we decided to try a vegetable garden in that space. Ron build some boxes and installed them and we edged the space with concrete stones and added a pretty big layer of compost saved over the year. On top of that we added vegetable soil and mushroom compost mixed together. Hopefully, it will give the plants a good start.
Today we added some more soil and plants and some trellis’ for the raspberries and the peas which will hopefully be coming up soon.
We added zucchini, yellow squash and red peppers to the mix.
Working in the garden led me to think about what we were going to do with the produce. Which brings us to the next picture.
These are three cookbook shelves in our library followed by …
… two more cookbook shelves. So I decided that in the next month I would actually cook recipes out of some of the cookbooks instead of just “winging” it for dinner.
We’re in the middle of planning our next European vacation next year. Italy is the destination and probably the food capital of the world. We want to be able to enjoy eating there without feeling too guilty so have to start preparing for that now. Smaller portions — fresher ingredients — all lead to smaller us.
At the Thrift Store this week I found two cookbooks to add to my collection. The first is pictured right. Cooking Light are some of my favorite recipes as they are heathy, easy, and seem to always turn out s expected. These recipes consist of 5 or 6 ingredients which make them pretty easy.
I plan to start this Sunday as we have a. couple of nights out between now and then.
This is the second cookbook that I found at the Thrift Store and another favorite for vegetarian recipes.
The cookbooks were practically brand new and were 50 cents each. A bargain.
I’ll keep you posted on how this goes and post some recipes as I make them.
