Cobh is an interesting town to visit for it’s location on a large island in South Cork and for it’s connection to the Titanic. We visited on a drizzly day and saw some of the main sites including the Titanic Experience and the Cobh Cathedral. Also had a quick look at the Peace Garden located at the convent.
We always try to stop at the tourist information for updates on what is going on that day and for a map of the area.
I was a bit skeptical about going to the Titanic Experience but it was an indoor activity which seemed like a good plan that day. It turned out to be really interesting. The Museum is located in the original offices of the White Star Line which adds some historical ambience to the tour. The guides are gifted story tellers and you are given a ticket and the identity of a passenger who boarded the Titanic.
Some of the passenger staterooms are recreated for 3rd and 1st class passengers. It is not on the scale of the Titanic Exhibit in Belfast but is another perspective on the story that makes an interesting stop.
Cobh would be more fun in better weather but sometimes you don’t get to choose and there is enough in town to keep you busy on a rainy day.
